Help adults with disabilities learn, grow, and build greater independence.

North Star Achievement Center is not a traditional adult day program . We are an educational and community-based learning center where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build life skills, employment skills, confidence, relationships, and independence.

Our DSPs are teachers, coaches, mentors, and supporters . This is an active, hands-on role for someone who enjoys engaging with people, teaching new skills, encouraging growth, and helping people succeed.

We don't simply supervise or do things for people—we teach, encourage, and support people in learning to do more for themselves.

What You'll Do

• Teach and reinforce life, social, communication, vocational, and community skills.
• Lead educational classes, small-group activities, and hands-on learning experiences.
• Turn everyday activities into opportunities for learning and independence.
• Coach people through challenges rather than automatically doing things for them.
• Support volunteer experiences, employment training, and community activities.
• Encourage choice, self-advocacy, problem-solving, and personal responsibility.
• Provide individualized assistance, including personal care when needed, while promoting dignity and independence.
• Document progress and daily services accurately.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development.

This Is an Active Teaching & Support Role

At North Star, DSPs are actively engaged throughout the day —teaching, asking questions, modeling skills, facilitating activities, encouraging participation, and helping people stretch beyond what they can already do.

If you're looking primarily for a position where you supervise, provide companionship, or wait until someone needs assistance, this probably isn't the right fit .

If you enjoy teaching, mentoring, problem-solving, and seeing someone become more independent because of your support, we'd like to meet you.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and registration
• Successful background check and multi-panel drug screening
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to complete provided training

Job Details & Benefits

Full-time or Part-time | Monday–Friday | Day Shift

Full-time Pay: starting at $31,000

Work takes place at North Star Achievement Center and throughout the Louisville community.
